# Data directory

> Where BOARDROOM stores your data on each platform, and what each file is for.

Status: Available

## Default location

| Platform | Directory |
| :--- | :--- |
| Windows | `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Boardroom` |
| macOS | `~/Library/Application Support/Boardroom` |
| Linux | `$XDG_DATA_HOME/boardroom`, or `~/.local/share/boardroom` |

Every command accepts `--data-dir <directory>` to use another location. The default keeps data outside the application directory; choose an external location when overriding it too.

## Contents

| Path | Purpose |
| :--- | :--- |
| `domain.sqlite` | Projects, evidence, recorded/live meetings, routes, framing, analyses, proposals, views, human decisions, call receipts and exports, plus an append-only event journal |
| `snapshots/<sha256>` | Original source bytes, and content-addressed document extractions, written once and never modified |
| `checkpoints.sqlite` | Created by `doctor`'s separate LangGraph probe; not used by the recorded example |

Live graphs also use separate phase checkpoint databases containing identities rather than authoritative business records. See [the architecture](https://github.com/francoisnoel62/Boardroom/blob/main/docs/architecture.md). Credentials live in the host vault or an explicitly injected process-local store, not shareable project configuration.

Exports, traces and isolation reports are written where you point `--output`; that destination may be within or outside your data directory.

Local files and databases are readable by the machine owner. Saved source paths may reveal local directory names.
